October in Charleston is criminally underrated for bachelorette weekends. Cooler weather, easier reservations, lower Airbnb prices, and zero humidity. Here's how to plan one.
Everyone defaults to April or May for a Charleston bachelorette. Those months are great — they're also the most expensive, most crowded, and hardest to book.
Here's the case for October instead, from someone who's hosted bachelorette groups in every month of the year.
The Weather Actually Cooperates
Charleston in April: 75 degrees and pretty. Charleston in October: 75 degrees and dry. The humidity that defines a Charleston summer is gone by the first week of October. Hair stays done. Makeup stays on. The walk from the Airbnb to dinner doesn't end in a sweat.
Average October highs run 76 to 80 in the first half of the month, dropping to mid-60s by Halloween. Almost no rain. It's the most comfortable Charleston gets.
Reservations Open Back Up
Husk in April: book 120 days out. Husk in October: 30 to 45 days. Same for FIG, Sorelle, and every other splurge restaurant. The peak-season scarcity vanishes the second the calendar flips.
The same is true for private bachelorette activities. Saturday afternoons in October still fill up, but 4 weeks of lead time is usually enough, versus 8 to 10 in May.
Airbnbs Drop 30 to 40 Percent
This is the real money. A 4-bedroom Cannonborough Airbnb that runs $2,400 a night in April is $1,500 to $1,700 in October. Split 8 ways across a weekend, that's $90 a person back in your pocket — enough to upgrade dinner or add an activity.
What to Plan Around in October
A few dates to know:
- MOJA Arts Festival (late September into early October). Adds energy and crowds downtown but doesn't disrupt restaurants.
- Home game weekends (Clemson or USC football). King Street fills with fans on Saturdays. Fine if your group is into it, avoidable if not.
- Halloween weekend. Charleston goes hard. If your bride wants the costume-bar-crawl energy, book it. If she wants quiet upscale dinner photos, pick the weekend before.
A Sample October Saturday
- 10 AM: Coffee on the porch. Light layers because mornings are crisp now.
- 12 PM: Walk to the Battery, photos, no sweat-through.
- 1:30 PM: Oysters at 167 Raw (their season starts in months ending in R — October is when Lowcountry oysters are at their peak).
- 3:30 PM: Private figure drawing party at Pencils & Pecs. The studio has AC but you won't need it.
- 8:30 PM: Dinner at Sorelle. Booking lead time: 45 days, vs. 90+ in spring.
- 11 PM: Rooftop at Citrus Club. The breeze is the whole point of going up there in October.
What to Tell the Group Chat
The pitch for moving the date to October usually goes:
